Participate in the long-term expansion of the field of Puerto Rican Studies. Create ideas collaboratively that can be then shared through public history and humanities projects, symposia, and dialogues with our broader communities in the diaspora and the archipelago.

Recognize and analyze new patterns of Puerto Rican migration and the ways this shift creates new cartographies of diaspora in the United States. Build bridges with the Puerto Rican and Latinx community in the state of Wisconsin and the Midwest writ large.

Foster collaboration and knowledge production among scholars and artists at a regional, national, and international level. Potentiate collaboration with scholars, artists, and community members from the archipelago.

Build intellectual ecosystems where scholars and artists can come together to imagine other Puerto Rican futures, which they can then continue to conceive and enact in their communities.

CO-DIRECTOR

Aurora Santiago Ortiz is an Assistant Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies and Chicane/Latine Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on anticolonial activisms, decolonial perspectives, and participatory action research.

Associate Professor of Caribbean and Latin American History. He is the co-director of the Puerto Rican Studies Hub.

PROJECT COORDINATOR

Félix Alejandro Rodríguez Cancio is Project Coordinator of the Puerto Rican Studies Hub at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His experience includes college-level teaching, research, and scholarly writing, alongside more than fifteen years of facilitating self-managed cultural spaces in Puerto Rico.

Joniel R. Pacheco-Muñoz (He/They) is a Graduate Student in Gender and Women’s Studies at UW-Madison. His scholarly interests focus on socio-cultural constructions of Blackness in Puerto Rico, Decolonial Feminisms, Political Movements, Caribbean theory, among others.

Sofia Rivera (She/Her/Ella) is a PhD student in the History Department at UW-Madison. Her research interests include Puerto Rican national identity formation in the early twentieth century, particularly as it intersects with labor history.

Daniel J. Vázquez Sanabria (él/elle | he/they) holds a Ph.D. in Mexican American and Latina/o Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. Their research examines how colonialism informs the relationships that Puerto Ricans develop with disability and disablement.

Pedro J. Rolón (Ph.D., UC Berkeley, Comparative Literature, Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory, MA in English, Creative Writing) is a poet and scholar from Caguas, Puerto Rico. He is interested in Caribbean and Hemispheric American poetry and poetics, contemporary art practices in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, aesthetics and Caribbean philosophy, the environmental humanities, and Black Studies.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Imaida (She/Her/Ella) is an Afro-Caribbean creative, fashion enthusiast, food yassifier from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. She serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Puerto Rican Studies Hub. She is also the Press Assistant at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies [CENTRO] at Hunter College.
